WELCOME!
Libraries have always been a place where all are welcome. With the recent changes in our demographic make up libraries have the opportunity to play a vital role in creating a climate of trust and respect. Libraries continue to connect people and serve communities. This website is designed to help libraries as they search for excellence in service. We have compiled models and resource materials that can be shared by all libraries wherever the need exists. The following pages are the culmination of a grant-funded project designed to help libraries in Illinois improve services to their rapidly diversifying populations. By providing a coordinated regional approach, the grant enabled project libraries to learn about their diverse populations, develop diversity services and obtain high levels of cultural competency. Our goals can be summed up as follows:
• Raise awareness of the need for services to diverse populations.
• Improve outreach through programs and events.
• Provide a model for networking with non-library service agencies.
• Create an environment where we can share our success stories and learn from each
other.
